Computers FOR Development is a Dutch based foundation aimed at promoting the use of refurbished computers and other hardware for sustainable development through the use of ICT in education. Our mission is to share the technology of rich western countries with people in the least developed countries.

Projects - Kenya

CFD intensified partnership with Computers for Schools Kenya in 2009. In january 500 PCs were shipped for use at various schools in Kenya.

 

Some of the current ongoing activities:

  • CFD and CFSK work on deployment of thin client solutions at different refurbishing centres starting with Western Kenya branch at Ogada Secondary school in Kisumu.
  • CFD and CFSK work on a volunteer programme to train more trainers within the refurbishing centre in Nairobi. Currently 2 volunteers trainers are being trained with the support from ATOS Origin Third World funds which was established in The Netherlands.
  • CFD is also busy with the renovation and expansion of the refurbishing centre in Western Kenya which will serve schools in 3 districts namely Kisumu, Siaya and Kakamega.
  • The establish ment of ewast manegement plan is ongoing. we are currently looking for support in developing a professional electronic waste management plant.

Some of the ongoing projects through partnership with CFSK:

  • Sasol - 100 PCs have been placed at Sasol. These are for the use by 3 schools under the management of Sasol, CFD is responsible for the software, training material and a maintenance plan in coordination with Sasol and Ex-change in The Netherlands.
