What is Computers For Development ?

Computers For Development is a Dutch based foundation aimed at promoting the use of refurbished computers and other hardware for sustainable development through the use of ICT in education.
How does Computers For Development work
Computers For Development reuses PC's and other computer hardware (monitors, laptops, printers, modems, etc.) that are provided by our donors. We collect the computers, clean the hard disks via certified software, test the hardware, and configure it according to the requirements of the end-users in the countries where we operate.
The computers are shipped to their country / region of destination by boat or air transport, and further distributed from there. Computers For Development makes sure the computers are delivered at the right location, installed, and incorporated in a support and maintenance program to ensure practical usage and sustainability.
A needs assessment check is done before delivering the computers to the schools. Prior to this, the schools fills in a request form which also includes an assessment of the security situation within the school. Local NGO's and IT partners are involved to make this happen.
Our main objectives
Our mission is to share the technology of rich western countries with people in the least developed countries. We aim to foster development through ICT, and create networks that help people help themselves. This goal can be achieved through the following:
  • Availability of hardware

  • IT training of students and teachers

  • Sharing of knowledge and skills

  • Build communities and networks of people for learning and development

  • Maintenance and sustainability of the implemented solutions
